Leisure facility to cater to tourists in South Cebu

CONVINCED that the Southern part of Cebu would be the next getaway for tourists, a Dutch investor with hotel operations abroad decided to put up a leisure facility in the town of Oslob.

Leo Regeer, together with his local business partner Grace Garcia, opened Seafari Resort, a 5,000 square-meter facility in Tan-awan, Oslob last month to complement the booming influx of tourists in the area.

In an interview, Garcia said they purchased half a hectare of land five years ago and have slowly started construction since then. But it was only last year that the construction went full blast. The resort, which is 252 steps from the roadside, has 15 rooms, swimming pools, a Jacuzzi and a trampoline. 

Regeer is not new to the tourism business, as he also owned a hotel in France called Moto Hotel Auvergne. It was his search for furniture for that hotel that brought him to Cebu.

He said the town of Oslob is a promising tourist destination, not only because of the abundance of whale sharks in the area, but also because of the town’s rich natural resources and cultural and heritage sites.

By the end of the year, the owners said they will add more amenities like a hanging bridge and lift. The owners hope to position the facility as a nature resort that would soon house a bird sanctuary.

Garcia added the resort is only the first phase of their investment in Oslob, as they intend to construct a condominium, which they plan to either sell or rent out to the public.

Regeer, who is a nature lover and nurse, also plans to set up a wellness clinic upon his retirement here.

“My vision is that what we will be earning in the resort will also go back to the community through the clinic where we will be offering free consultations to those who cannot afford to pay for medications, especially those mentally retarded patients,” said Regeer.

He said his rich connections in Europe would be vital in marketing the facility overseas, especially to Europeans and Americans.
